About a month ago, I mentioned the importance of having a "prayer place." Mine at the time was outside because I didn't have the means to make a nice enough space on the inside of my home. And with weather getting colder, I really wanted to have a place inside also. I decided to put my creativity to work! I knew there had to be enough unused things in my home that I could probably construct items into a workable prayer bench. So, I grabbed a few blankets and pillows and threw it on top of a wicker trunk and there ya go...a prayer bench! I even have an ottoman that I pull in from the living room to prop my feet on. It may not be the prettiest thing you ever did see. But, it's enough for me!
Unfortunately, the prayer bench sits on Jarrett's side of our bed. What does that matter, you might ask? Well, this bench also once served as a dirty laundry table. And the temptation to continue this bad habit, even with the soft decor, is still strong. So, the bench was cleared off again today and I was able to spend some much needed time with the Lord. While reading, I was interrupted with a coughing child walking into my room who needed some water (she had been sleeping). I gave her some medicine and a cough drop and cuddled her for a moment. She then said, "mommy, can I sit with you on the prayer bench and you read me some of your Bible?" Even though I thought it was a slight ploy to stay up later, I did it anyway. This last week has been hard as a mommy for me and those words melted my heart (and I love that she knows it's my prayer bench)!
So, I think if I can keep it clean (or, "he" can keep it clean), then I might be called back to that special place on my makeshift prayer bench more often!

Hope you get to visit your bench often :) I love to go outside to do mine, but sometimes will just sit in my rocker inside. In our old house my place was on our loveseat and I remember when Catherine was little one time she came out of her room and said, "I knew you would be sitting there" and I was so thrilled that it had become common for her to find me there having my quiet time. Much success to you!!!
What a great idea! Thank you for sharing.
Are the girls feeling any better? I didn't see you leave yesterday... I was going to ask you about getting together for a baking day....or a something fun day... something really messy, since nobody else seems to be brave enough. :-)
