One Big Crafty Post!

Thanksgiving was so much fun in Georgia with our family! And as I said in my last post, I really love making memories with my kids. And crafts are such a fun way to remember our holidays! Just like our Thanksgiving 2 years ago with Cory and Cassie's family, I decided to put these busy kids to work while we cooked and cleaned for the big meal.

Let the fun begin!

To show her cousins how special they are to her, Annalise (with a little of mommy's help) made little corn "cracker" crafts with gifts and notes of thanks on the inside!

And as a precursor to our festive Thanksgiving day, we decided to make Oreo Turkeys! I thought they were quite adorable! Unlike our messy Cupcake Turkeys, these turkeys were harder to assemble (those stinking Oreos kept breaking on us)!

Here is Avery with her detailed icing of the turkey eye!

These are some cute kids!

Oh, and some pretty cute turkeys too!

And since this year will be a "homemade Christmas" around our house, we made a Christmas Tree Chain with a Thanksgiving Twist! Each strip of paper is adorned with something that each family member is thankful for. Now as we look at our tree, we can remember all of our blessings!

Here is Mimi and Annalise cutting away!
Annalise was a pro at putting the chain together!
Will they always be this happy linked together?
Well, now it's a countdown till Christmas. We also made another chain with the numbers 24 to 1 written on each link. Each morning (since yesterday), we tear off one link and tape it above the chain to show how many days left until Christmas! It kinda keeps those hundreds of repeated "how many more days until Christmas" questions answered without me saying a thing.

So, moving on to today...

This year will be be having a material-less Christmas! Yep, this year it's homemade! Personally, I'm tired of the rush at the stores to buy gifts that I don't even know if others will like. We spend lots of money (which we don't have) and frankly, that's not what it is all about. So, not only are spending less on store bought gifts this year, we are also decorating with the creations of our children (and our nieces and nephew)!

Today, Annalise and I hosted a Christmas party of crafts! We will be putting up the tree Saturday and need the help of crafty hands to help have things to decorate it with!

But, first, while we watched "Elf," we had lunch and homemade goodies for desert!

Here's Avery picking her Rice Crispy Wreath to much on!

Next we brought out the Gingerbread House to make SWEETER! (I must say, I'm glad I worked on the framework first...not an easy task)!

Here is Allison placing a gumball on the rooftop. She had already snuck one in her mouth before I could stop her (notice the puffy cheeks)!

The finished product!
And lastly, we made ornaments! Lots of markers, glitter, glue, and puff balls!

My little elf girls!
Can't wait to decorate this Saturday!

No, Kelly, she's not crafty, she just follows directions (or so I hear)!!
It's a good thing my kids have you in their life.

That was such a fun blog! I love the Oreo turkeys!!! I am totally doing that one next year. I am with you.. gingerbread houses are HARD! We did one for the first time last year & I couldn't believe that, as hard as it was, people still do it every year! Crazy. Good for you, though. I am sure your kids appreciated all of that quality time with their mama
