Yep, that is what my child asked me a few days ago. So, apparently, our children are listening. Or maybe I just have Fox News on too much.
So, since I am homeschooling and the election is soon to be here, I decided that this would be a great opportunity to teach my little Kindergarten girl about the Election!
I was very surprised to see her interest. We looked online and found MANY sites that gave an overview of the candidates, the definition of the President, and voting information.
She now knows that Barack Obama is a person, a Senator of the U.S., running for President. Unfortunately, she had not heard of Senator John McCain. Maybe the name wasn't as fun to say. So, I was able to show her pictures of both candidates running for office.
And she also learned more facts about election day and voting.
She was able to watch short video clips explaining the election, voting, political parties and more. She actually was upset when I told her we were going to take a break and finish them another day. At the end of her lesson, we took an online quiz. She now knows where the President will live, how old a candidate must be to run for office, how often we vote for a new President and more! See the sites:
Electing a President - includes quizzes, polls, info on elections, teacher's guide, and more
BrainPop "Election '08" - includes tons of video and information.

You're so nice, she only knew Obama because of how much more time he gets in the main stream media.
I do love these sites though. I am planning to do that for school today and probably some next week. Thanks for the links.
I just love Brain-pops. I have a subscription through the school, but what a bummer because it is only available during school hours. This means I need to check out the videos during my planning time. I love how simply they explain things and my favorite character is the robot!
