Camping Date Night (by Jarrett)

Jarrett here again...see, told you I would be blogging!
Friday afternoon, Jaime and I took a much needed break from life, work, kids and any other things that commonly distract married people, to go on our first ever camping trip together alone! We've done this a few times with the kids and have grown to enjoy it over the years. But this time, we wanted it to just be us. We packed up Friday afternoon, ditched the kids and headed off into the wilderness.

When we arrived at our campsite, there were two deer walking about 15 yards from where our tent was going. It was pretty cool! It was almost as if the park releases them for guests to set the outdoor mood....animatronics Disney style!

Anyway, I saw this as a gift from God...took out my gun and began to fire. Dinner was awesome that night!!

Yes, I'm kidding. No, I didn't shoot the deer...

Next, we got the tent set up in record time, as we weren't chasing the kids around. Then we went for a hike down to the lake.

We had fun taking pictures down on the dock, talking, praying, and just enjoying some quiet time before our campfire dinner.

Once we got back from the lake, we got the fire going, planted our butts in our chairs, and spent the next several hours eating, roasting marshmallows, talking and hanging out.

In the camping gear, stored from the final trip of last year, we found a pack of glow bracelets we had gotten for the kids. Yes, we played with them!

The only way you could see us in the picture is if we timed the camera snap perfectly in sync with me pouring lighter fluid on the fire. Kids, do NOT try this at home!

Believe it or not, we went to sleep before 11:00 PM, and woke up AFTER 8:00 the next morning... IN A TENT!! It was great!

For breakfast, we made omelets and blueberry muffins in ziplock bags and boiled water. Its hard to explain, but thanks to the Girl Scouts for the idea.

We had a great time and will certainly plan to do this again for another long date night. We're planning on another camping trip in a few weeks for Allison's 4th birthday party. We did this last year and she loved it!
